They both saw the opportunity to leverage the crowdfunding to fuel social change and felt that changemakers deserved a platform built specifically to support them and their world-changing initiatives in a way the mainstream or arts-focused platforms couldn’t. There is no shortage of passionate people with great ideas to change the world. But the reality is that traditional funding decisions are made by a select few. As a result, new, innovative projects don’t get funded enough because current funding often requires a proven track record. This reduces the innovation we need to change the world for the better. That’s where we come in. We want to help bring to new, innovative ideas to life. We do this by democratizing the funding landscape, putting power into the hands of the community. Four years later we've helped raise $6 million for projects in 35 countries. He previously founded award-winning Australia non-profit Vibewire and was the first Social Media Director at Ashoka. He has worked with numerous non-profits, associations and government entities to help them tell their stories and build community. He’s founded a film festival, opened Australia’s first co-working space and set-up a Burning Man Theme Camp with his wife Kate. They returned to Australia in 2012 after four years in the US in time for the birth of their first child, Bodhi.Mindy LeowGeneral Manager -- Mindy is passionate about business as a catalyst for social change. After a decade of being a professional marketer in the U.S., she decided to redirect her energy and skills towards the growth of social enterprises in Australia. Mindy developed and managed a number of key online resources aimed at growing the sector. At StartSomeGood, Mindy overseas the company's finance, operations, and strategy. Mindy has an MBA from Melbourne Business School, and BA in Journalism from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mindy is also a certified yoga instructor, who also loves sailing, windsurfing and hiking.Renata van DiestCTO -- Renata van Diest has a Computer Science degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, where she took her first programming class because one of her classmates dared her to. Upon graduation she worked as a Software Engineer at Microsoft, building backend systems as well as desktop and mobile applications. She graduated from London Business School, and has worked with several startups in the London area. She is passionate about businesses that combine technology with a social mission in order to improve people's lives. When able to escape from behind her laptop, Renata enjoys photography, snowboarding, documentary films, travelling, and playing the guitar and piano.Patty SimontonDirector of Changemaker Support -- Patty Simonton is a community builder, strategic planner, and event organizer who loves to work with social entrepreneurs, peace makers, and members of the creative community to make the world awesome. In between theatre productions and long distance bike rides, she earned a degree in International Business from Georgetown University and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. She is a co-producer of FIGMENT DC, a participatory arts festival in Washington, DC. She also serves on the Board of Directors for arts non-profits Artomatic, and Playa del Fuego.Stephanie ArrowsmithManager of Global Partnerships -- Stephanie is passionate about working at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship and social impact and has a degree from the University of Western Australia. She has over five years experience leading global policy and advocacy programs in the NFP sector and is a School for Social Entrepreneurs Fellow. At StartSomeGood, she has helped launch over 150 crowdfunding campaigns and built partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region through workshops, events and matched funding initiatives such as Crowdmatch. Happiest with her backpack on, Stephanie's experience has taken her to over 35 countries, including living in Cambodia, Denmark, Indonesia, Guatemala and the USA.
