We are a collection of pro-active individuals committed to developing innovative and new approaches to today’s problems with the assistance of elected officials, scholars from universities and colleges and community activists.Valerie JohnsonValerie Johnson is an accomplished public sector professional with more than 25 years of administrative management, non-profit and political expertise. Her multifaceted professional experiences served her well in her position as the Administrator of Boards and Commissions in the Office of Governor Pat McCrory (NC). In this role, Valerie assisted the Governor with appointing more than 100 minority candidates to North Carolina boards and commissions. Along with regularly interfacing with members of the United States Congress, North Carolina legislators, and representatives from numerous state agencies. For Valerie, a day in the life of means being loyal to the citizens of North Carolina by drawing upon her innate strengths of intuition, assertiveness to identify people with passions and interests that keep North Carolina future-focused. Viewed by many as a natural leader, Valerie leverages her quick-wit, strategic thinking and organized approach to balance the demands of her public sector role with her commitments to private sector and civic initiatives. Passionate about having meaningful and intelligent dialog around issues impacting the socio-economic plight of North Carolinians, Valerie serves as the Chair of the Public Safety Committee and has been appointed to a four-year term on the North Carolina Human Relations Commission by Governor McCrory. In this role, Valerie can advocate, enforce and promote equal opportunity in housing, employment, education and government services for North Carolina citizens. Truly a servant leader, Valerie enjoys a full life where her work influences, encourages and inspires others. She organized the first Durham-based Black Republican Outreach Committee, which included conducting forums, hosting monthly meetings, and organizing community engagement events. The results of Valerie’s leadership efforts garnered a 40% increase in less than 3 years in minority conservation voters. Valerie is proud that her strategy is used by other counties as a framework for similar GOP outreach efforts. Additionally, Valerie has a number of key leadership roles within the Republican Party, including being the 1st Congressional District Representative on the NCGOP Platform Committee, holding an At-large seat in the 1st District, serving as 2nd Vice Chair of the Triangle Republican Women’s Club. In 2016, Valerie founded the Black Republican Caucus of the Carolinas. She recently became the Vice President of the Frederick Douglass Foundation of North Carolina; an auxiliary member of the NCGOP Central Committee. Valerie put her organizational acumen to the test when she organized a “Night to Honor Israel” event in Raleigh, North Carolina where Deputy Consul General Ron Brummer of The Consulate General of Israel and Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest delivered inspiring keynotes. An impressive crowd of over 300 people turned out due in large part to her enterprising efforts. A woman of faith, Valerie is dedicated to youth-based initiatives realized through her duties as a Board of Directors member of the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Durham, Governor’s Advisory Council on Historically Underutilized Business, The Why Wait mentoring group and the Movement of Youth.Clarence HendersonIn 1960, on the second day of the Greensboro sit-in, Joseph A. McNeil and Franklin E. McCain are joined by William Smith and Clarence Henderson at the Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. Clarence Henderson was in the forefront of the civil rights battle as he bravely stepped up to participate in the sit-in at the Woolworth’s diner. Today, Mr. Henderson is a champion for freedom and conservative values. His message will inspire you and teach you how to change the narrative in this nation, from “Liberty for a few” to “Liberty for All!” In 2000, Mr. Henderson was the recipient of the 40th Anniversary Sit-In Participant Award and in 2013 he was appointed by Governor Pat McCrory, to the Chairman seat on the North Carolina Martin Luther King Jr. Commission. In addition, Governor McCrory conferred in 2016 The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award to Clarence with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary. As of May 2017, Mr. Henderson was appointed President of the Frederick Douglass Foundation for the State of North Carolina. Mr. Henderson’s energetic involvement in his church as Head Elder, New Members Coordinator, Sunday school teacher, and Finance committee member; and his life’s journey as a teacher, college administrator, entrepreneur and motivational speaker has given him a unique perspective on what confronts society today. While his life is chronicled with episodes of civil unrest in which he found himself thrust in the midst, he did his part to bring awareness and change in a peaceful manner.
